Been Gone So Long….
February 25, 2008Georgetown Cupcake
February 16, 2008
Sorry I’ve been gone so long but work has me so busy these days. Ok, so I took my own advice and have had the most wonderful time over the past week. I’ve had cupcakes from Cake Love, Bake and Wired and today I hit up the new Georgetown Cupcake. So, even though I do tend to like a denser cupcake with a buttercream frosting, Georgetown Cupcake wins my vote for best in DC. The cupakes are pretty, tasty and come in so many flavors. Today I had chocolate and vanilla, lemon blossom and red velvet that were packaged in the cutest hot pink box. They are perfect for any occassion. The flavor of each was very distinct and the frosting (a cream cheese style) is perfect – not too heavy and not too sweet. Finally – a cupake spot in DC. I guess better late than never!
Cupcakes and Cocktails
February 8, 2008

Ok, so no sweetie this year? Comment est-ce possible? Well, if that is the case no sad sacks allowed and it’s a sin to let a holiday that celebrates love go un-celebrated! Live it up and invite friends over for cupcakes and chocolate martinis. I know lonely hearts clubs are so…well…lonely, but there’s always next year.
SuperChef Marcus Samuelsson
February 8, 2008
Sorry I’ve been gone for a few days, I was off traveling for work.
Superchef Marcus Samuelsson has opened Merkato 55, according to Daily Candy…
The space features African themes (animals, mud huts, colonial maps) and some surprises (proverbs carved into tabletops, poems sculpted into steel). Samuelsson treats Africa like one big supermarket, picking ingredients from all over and inventing new dishes. Try kidogo (“small bits” in Swahili) like coriander chutney or shrimp chili sambal, followed by merguez with corn pap, oysters with harissa mignonette, or jerk pork belly with radish and mango.
As an aside I recently tried pork belly on a recent trip to Atlanta and while there is a lot of fat, the meat is so tender and flavorful, definitely worth a try. I love it the whole menu. I’m headed to New York next month and I’ll report back then! And I suppose it wouldn’t be too bad if he happened to be there when I go. He’s not too hard on the eyes…
